Here are some examples of the assessment pieces I use in my Spanish IV Course.
First, I have provided an example of a listening quiz from a song unit about Ecuador. Students are given three opportunities to listen to the song and fill in the blanks with the words that they hear. They also have to define selected vocabulary as part of the quiz. This activity is usually done 5-8 days after students are first introduced to the song and have many opportunities to work with the vocabulary, song contents, and lyrics.
Next I have provided a sample writing assessment. This writing assessment is the final assessment piece for a unit on travel. I have adapted the unit from teacher/author Carrie Toth and use her template for the writing assessment. In this assessment, students make recommendations for travel after learning how to talk about travel, making recommendations, and asking for suggestions.
Next, I have included a sample reading assessment. This reading was given to students as a practice activity while they work through a unit on travel. In this assessment, students are reading about places to travel and what the recommended activities are while they are there. Then, they will complete a series of reading comprehension activities and vocabulary reinforcement practice. I do not give this activity as part of a test, but rather as a way to practice the vocabulary prior to taking the test for this unit.
Finally, I have uploaded a version of a speaking assessment that my Spanish IV students take after reading a novel. This assessment was written for the Teacher's Guide for this novel, but I have found it to be a very useful tool in analyzing the speaking skills that my students have obtained after reading this novel. Students are able to choose a prompt from the grid and must speak about it in Spanish. I use the website FlipGrid to record student speaking assessments so that I am able to listen many times to give a fair assessment for each student.
