As part of my job as a Spanish teacher, I also have the wonderful opportunity to run a travel program for my students. I plan, organize, and lead an international trip every two years for my students. I believe international travel is so important for students to experience, especially when we have the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country. This opens a world view for students that they may not have had before, and provides excellent opportunities for personal growth and reflection. It is an incredibly rewarding experience to share the gift of travel with my students.
In June of 2017, I lead a group of 31 parents and students to Madrid, Spain. We spent nine days exploring the greater Madrid area, learning all about the history of Spain and the rich culture that settled there. This was a very special trip for me as I was able to share my love of Spain with my students and my family who attended the trip. I was able to take my students to the town where I studied abroad and share the wonderful parts of Spanish culture with them. The trip brought my classroom to life!
In June of 2019, I lead a group of 44 parents and students to London, Paris, and Madrid. We learned about the historical influences throughout each city, and had a small taste of culture in each place. This trip was very special to me as I led the trip with a colleague for the first time, and traveled to new places as well. Being able to experience a new city right beside my colleagues and students was a magical experience that I will never forget.
